Copa Airlines is continuing recovery efforts across its network following a day marked by multiple temporary ground stops and closures at Tocumen International Airport. Seismic activity recorded this Friday in Panama, accompanied by persistent aftershocks, forced aviation and airport authorities to carry out repeated technical reviews and structural safety inspections across both runway surfaces and terminal facilities, leading to further flight schedule disruptions.

As a direct result of these mandatory safety protocols, the carrier is managing operational contingencies that include extended delays, cancellations, and schedule adjustments. Airline personnel are working intensively to recover normal flight flows for both inbound Panama-bound traffic and strategic flight connections via its Hub of the Americas®.

Expansion of Commercial Flexibility Policy

To accommodate passengers whose itineraries were disrupted by the event, Copa Airlines has extended its ticket change, credit, and refund policy under the following terms:

  • Ticketing Window: Applies to tickets issued on or before October 9, 2026.
  • Impacted Travel Dates: Valid for itineraries originally scheduled between October 9 and October 14, 2026, across any airline-operated route.
  • Fee Waivers: Date changes are permitted without change fees or fare differences.
  • Rescheduling Deadline: Rescheduled travel must be completed by October 31, 2026.
  • Available Channels: Modifications can be processed via the airline’s direct customer contact centers or through travel agencies.

Flight Credits and Refund Provisions

For passengers opting to postpone or cancel their itineraries, the carrier has introduced additional travel options:

  • Travel Credit (Hold Value): Passengers may retain the full ticket value as a travel credit for future use, exempt from change penalties during the validity of the ticket document.
  • Refund Eligibility: Full refunds have been authorized for unused tickets or a pro-rata refund for partially flown segments, applicable even to originally non-refundable fares.

Passenger Duty of Care and Travel Advisory

In addition to ticketing flexibility, the airline continues to provide direct duty-of-care support to affected passengers. These contingency measures include complimentary hotel accommodation (subject to availability where applicable) as well as interline rebooking on alternative carriers when viable options exist.

Copa Airlines anticipates operations returning to normal in the coming hours. However, as further knock-on delays or schedule adjustments remain possible, the carrier strongly advises passengers who have not yet departed for the airport to monitor their flight status in advance via the official website or mobile application, reaffirming that the operational safety of passengers and crew remains its highest priority.
