Latam Airlines, the largest air transport group in Latin America, said Thursday that it will increase its domestic flight offer in September and restart local operations in Colombia after the forced suspension due to the pandemic.

The airline filed for bankruptcy protection in the United States in May to restructure its debts after having to stop most of its flights due to health restrictions imposed by countries to contain the spread of covid-19.

Latam said in a statement that it “will offer more frequencies in domestic destinations in Chile, Brazil, Peru and Ecuador, as well as the start of the national operation in Colombia. Three international routes will also be resumed with origin in Santiago and Sao Paulo”.

“The operation of the group is subject to market conditions, as well as travel restrictions in the countries where it operates,” he warned.

The coronavirus pandemic is hitting Latin America hard with Brazil leading with 3.7 million infections and more than 116,000 deaths, while Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru exceed 400,000 cases.
