The operation of international flights in Peru, paralyzed by the closure of borders to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), will be resumed as of October 1, the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced this Wednesday.
“The date is already defined, we make the schedule of flights per month. Then (it will be) October 1st, it is already arranged to be that date,” said the head of the MTC, Carlos Estremadoyro.
The minister said that during September will be completed defining with the airlines, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) the health protocol to be followed to prevent contagion of COVID-19.
“We must prepare the system and for that we have established that all this month of September we are going to prepare, we are going to make the sale of tickets, we are going to organize the topic of the sanitary protocols for which we have already made a proposal to the airlines,” he said.
Estremadoyro said that some airlines have already accepted the proposals made by the Executive, while with others they still have discussions to reach an agreement.
The minister said that the government aims to restart operations with the United States, Mexico, Spain, Chile, Argentina and Brazil in a first stage.
He also assured that the number of flights will be limited, as with air travel at the national level.
“We have authorized 18 daily flights in the country and we are using 10. They started with 18, they went down and now we are at 10, there is no more demand. In some cases where there is an over demand, for health issues we are going to restrict it ourselves. If there were 4 flights to Spain, it would only be 1 or 2, no more,” he said.
