China’s civil aviation industry has made progress in developing smart airports, according to a senior official of the China Civil Aviation Administration (CAAC).

China has been implementing a smart technology driven development strategy during the period of the XIII plan (2016-2020), reported Dong Zhiyi, deputy director of CAAC, Xinhua agency reported.
During the 2016-2020 period, efforts have been made throughout the industry to develop smart airports, which emphasize data exchange, effective coordination and smart operations, Dong explained.

Dong was speaking at a conference on the development of civil airports, which is taking place in the eastern coastal city of Xiamen.
CAAC has focused on the development of safe, green, smart and passenger-friendly airports.
During the period 2016-2020, the Asian giant’s civil aviation industry initially established large databases to maintain industry operations and put new diversified technologies into use at the airports.
Industry players have been exploring ways to develop smart airports by injecting technologies into fields such as airport security management, flight management and operations control, Dong said.
