Thousands of jobs are at risk if a new aid package for US airlines is not approved.
The Trump administration has proposed including a $20 billion extension for the airline industry in the new stimulus proposal presented to Democrats in the House of Representatives, as part of a package of more than $1.5 trillion, White House chief of staff Mark Meadows said Wednesday, Reuters reported.

“There’s $20 billion for the airlines, which would extend their coverage for another six months,” Meadows told reporters aboard Air Force One, noting that the industry urgently needed support.
American Airlines and United Airlines, two of the largest airlines in the US, reported Thursday that they had already begun laying off more than 32,000 workers, while hopes of a last-minute rescue by Washington were fading.
The US airlines had asked for another $25 billion in recent weeks to protect jobs for six more months after the first package expired at midnight on Wednesday.
