An Airbus A320 from United Airlines was forced to return to O’Hare airport on Monday afternoon due to heavy storms that hit the area.

“Flight 349, which flew from Chicago to Washington Dulles Airport, landed at O’Hare Airport after being forced to return “due to inclement weather,” the airline confirmed.

“The plane landed safely and the passengers will continue to their final destination in a new plane,” the airline said in a statement.

An image posted on Twitter by passenger Alex Lang shows the plane’s windshield cracked after the incident.

“My UA349 flight literally had to make an emergency landing because for some reason we went through a hailstorm and the entire windshield cracked,” Lang tweeted.
