Aeromexico Group, the country’s largest airline, requested authorization from a U.S. court to liquidate 1,830 employees as part of the financial restructuring process that began in June, according to documents revealed on Wednesday by the U.S. judiciary.

The company, which like other airlines in the world has been hit hard by a collapse in the Covid-19 pandemic lawsuit, directed the petition to the Bankruptcy Court of the Southern District of New York, Reuters reported.

The petition considers the dismissal of 855 unionized employees, whose liquidation would represent an outlay of some 290 million pesos, and 975 non-unionized employees, to whom benefits of some 372 million pesos would be paid.
The airline was not immediately available to comment on the petition to Judge Shelley Chapman, who will determine at a hearing on November 16 whether the authorizations are granted.
Aeromexico’s shares fell this Wednesday 3.82%, to 4.28 pesos, according to data from Refinitiv Eikon.
