Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair recorded robust growth at the start of the peak season, carrying 20.7 million passengers during May. This represents a 6% increase compared to the same period last year, consolidating its position as Europe’s leading airline by passenger volume.
Operational Performance and Rolling Traffic Figures
Ryanair’s operations demonstrated high efficiency last month, a period in which the Dublin-based airline operated more than 114,000 flights. Despite the increase in seat capacity, demand remained firm, allowing the load factor—the metric used to measure the percentage of seats filled per flight—to hold steady at 95%.
Looking at the long-term perspective, the airline’s rolling figures reflect a sustained growth trend:
- Rolling Annual Traffic: Over the twelve months ending in May, Ryanair confirmed a total of 210.4 million passengers, equivalent to a 4% increase.
- Average Load Factor: The annual load factor stood at 94%, remaining unchanged relative to the previous period.

The company assured that there will be no fuel supply disruptions stemming from the conflict in the Middle East, guaranteeing flight continuity and operational integrity well beyond the peak summer season.
Airfare Trends
On the commercial front, the airline projected that ticket prices will not increase significantly during the holiday period. However, the company acknowledged an adjustment in its internal financial forecasts, admitting that previous analyses—which anticipated fare hikes of just under 5% for these high-season months—will not materialize.
