The airline Amaszonas Uruguay announced the cessation of passenger flights and initiated a “reinvention process”. Due to the closure of free transit of foreigners and tourists by Uruguay and the low market demand, caused by the coronavirus pandemic, led the company to make this decision.

Through a press release, Amaszonas informed that the company made the decision to “initiate a process of rapprochement and negotiation with different actors, such as: the main suppliers, the reconfiguration and reduction of the workforce, optimization of the use and destination of the Embraer E190 aircraft and other strategic measures”.

Amaszonas informed that alternatives were analyzed so that in the next three months the company can operate in the field of cargo transportation and/or air work modalities. In this way, they intend to continue with the prerogatives granted by the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) granted by the National Directorate of Civil Aviation and Aeronautical Infrastructure (Dinacia).
“This is not very encouraging news. We did our best to continue providing connectivity to Uruguayan passengers. Unfortunately, today the operation in Uruguay has become very complex, so we will have to reinvent ourselves in other modes of transportation and air work, if possible”, said Sergio León, general manager of Amaszonas.
