Istanbul airport became the busiest in Europe in terms of passenger numbers in 2020, according to a Bloomberg report.
With 23.4 million passengers, the new Istanbul airport surpassed London’s Heathrow and Paris’ Charles de Gaulle, with 22.3 million and 22.1 million, respectively.

The number of passengers traveling through Turkish airports, including transit passengers, reached 81.7 million in 2020, as previously announced by the country’s airport authority.
Heathrow airport, once the busiest in Europe, said in a statement that the number of passengers was reduced by 73% during 2020, as travel restrictions due to COVID-19.
