American Airlines announced on Friday the launch of a new nonstop route connecting Miami and Barcelona, in Venezuela’s Anzoátegui state, starting January 15, 2027. This marks the first time the eastern Venezuelan city will have direct service to the carrier’s hub at Miami International Airport. The new operation complements American’s existing services to Caracas and Maracaibo.
Earlier this year, the carrier became the first U.S. airline to resume scheduled flights to Venezuela since 2019. In the wake of the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuelan territory, the airline also operated a humanitarian relief flight to Caracas, airlifting over 9,000 pounds of essential supplies to affected communities. Following the reopening of Caracas to international operations, American was likewise the first U.S. carrier to restore daily service.
Frequencies, Flight Schedules, and Aircraft
The Miami–Barcelona route will operate three times weekly, with flights scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Services will be operated using Embraer E175 aircraft, configured with a dual-class cabin—including a premium cabin—and passenger experience amenities such as onboard Wi-Fi connectivity and in-seat power outlets.

Network of 24 Weekly Flights to Venezuela
With the launch of the Barcelona service, American Airlines will offer a total of 24 weekly frequencies between the United States and Venezuela, all operating out of its Miami hub:
- Caracas: Twice daily (14 flights per week).
- Maracaibo: Daily service (7 flights per week).
- Barcelona: Three flights per week.
Stephen Neuman, Senior Vice President and Head of Government Affairs at American Airlines, underscored the significance of the expansion:
“At American, we are proud of the robust service we provide to Venezuela and even prouder to stand as the only U.S. airline operating in the country. Adding Barcelona reinforces our long-standing commitment to the nation. This new link to our Miami hub will also offer customers one-stop connectivity to more than 100 destinations across North America. We extend our gratitude to U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and both the U.S. and Venezuelan governments for their support in launching this new service.”
