Emirates President Tim Clark said Wednesday that the Boeing 777X is unlikely to be delivered before the first quarter of 2024.

Boeing has been developing the new 777 version with the goal of launching it by the end of 2023, three years later than planned.
“The 777X was due to arrive in June last year, now it’s unlikely to be, I think, before the first quarter of 2024,” Clark told a virtual summit of aviation consultancy CAPA.

A Boeing spokeswoman told Reuters that the aircraft manufacturer still expected deliveries of the 777X to begin in late 2023.
The certification process for the new aircraft is expected to be longer and more costly following the scrutiny of the 737 MAX, which was grounded for nearly two years after fatal crashes.
Emirates originally ordered 150 777X aircraft, seating 406 people, and now has 126 orders. Analysts say the COVID-19 crisis has clouded the demand outlook for these large aircraft.
