Mexican low-cost airlines, Volaris and Viva Aerobus, requested authorization to operate international scheduled air passenger, mail and cargo services to Colombia, a market that saw a drop in flights to and from Mexico due to the departure of Interjet.

Volaris filed an application to operate a route from Mexico City to Bogota (with four weekly frequencies) and Medellin (with two weekly frequencies), and another from Cancun to Bogota (with three weekly frequencies) and Medellin (with two weekly frequencies).

Viva Aerobus is seeking the authority’s approval to operate between Mexico City and Bogota with seven weekly frequencies.

On February 25, the applications of both airlines will be evaluated in a virtual public hearing.
