China bans Austrian Airlines flights after detecting five Covid-19 positives.

Chinese authorities have banned Austrian Airlines flights to Shanghai for two weeks after five passengers tested positive for covid-19 on a flight to Shanghai earlier this month.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has informed the company that five people tested positive for covid-19 on arrival in China, according to Swiss aviation news portal Aero Telegraph, reported EFE.

The ban, which affects two flights, one each week, will last until April 9.

Those flying directly from Austria to Shanghai must present negative PCR and antibody tests before boarding, which are no more than 48 hours old and have been certified by the Chinese Embassy in Vienna.

The five positives were transit passengers arriving from different countries at Vienna airport, where they boarded for China, the airline told Aero Telegraph.

Transit passengers must also undergo the screening process in Austria.

Other airlines such as Aeroflot, Etihad or Ethiopian Airlines have been affected in the past by the temporary suspension of flights, which is applied when five or more infected passengers are detected on a flight.
