Spain will lift on March 30 the restrictions imposed since late December on flights from the United Kingdom because of the coronavirus, announced Tuesday the government, which maintains instead the limitations from Brazil and South Africa.

“The extension of the flight restriction is maintained with South Africa and Brazil, but not with the United Kingdom,” Spanish government spokeswoman María Jesús Montero told a press conference, according to AFP.
On 22 December, like other countries, the Spanish government had decided to strictly restrict flights from the UK to prevent the entry of the so-called British strain, which eventually spread widely in Spain in the middle of the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

The measure was extended several times, most recently on March 9, until the 30th of this month. It meant that only Spanish or Andorran passengers, or those resident in these two countries, could fly to Spain from the UK. The measure was extensive to passenger ship traffic.
With this decision, it will be possible to fly from the UK with a recent negative PCR test.
The United Kingdom is one of the most advanced countries in its vaccination campaign.
As for arrivals by plane from Brazil and South Africa, the restrictions remain in force until April 13, “due to the variants that occur in those countries, which still have a low prevalence in Spain”, explained spokeswoman Montero.
In addition to nationals and residents of Spain and Andorra, the other exception is that from Brazil and South Africa, passengers in international transit to a country outside the European Schengen area, with a stopover of less than 24 hours and without leaving the transit zone of the Spanish airport through which they pass, will also be able to fly to Spain.
The restrictions with these two countries have been in force since last February 2 by decision of the Spanish government.
