The Chilean Ministry of Health announced on Monday that the border closure that has been in force in the country since April 5 as a result of the coronavirus pandemic will be extended for 30 more days.

“The borders will remain closed for Chileans and foreigners during the month of May, that is to say, Chileans will not be able to leave except in extraordinary situations and foreigners will not be able to enter our country”, said the Undersecretary of Health, Paula Daza.
It will be possible to leave the country only in case of “an extraordinary situation”, she said. Such persons may request an authorization by means of a form available through the Carabineros Virtual Police Station web page. These exceptions will be for urgent and humanitarian reasons, such as health treatments or essential steps for the proper functioning of the country.
