Flights between Germany and Russia resumed Wednesday after several hours of disruption due to reciprocal restriction measures, Lufthansa said, DW reported.
“The Russian authorities agreed to allow Lufthansa to operate passenger flights to Russia in June. This means that Lufthansa flights to Moscow and St. Petersburg can be carried out as planned,” a spokeswoman for the group told AFP.
Meanwhile, Russian airlines Aeroflot and S7 also announced the resumption of their links with Germany, according to Russian agencies TASS and Ria Novosti.
“Everything is fine, we have received all authorizations,” Aeroflot President Mikhail Poluboyarinov told TASS.
Two Lufthansa flights from Frankfurt had to be cancelled after Russian authorities failed to grant the necessary permits.
Germany decided not to authorize incoming flights of Russian airlines into its airspace until the Moscow authorities approved the flights from Germany.
As a result, flights by Russian airlines Aeroflot and S7 could not take place on Wednesday.
Last week two flights of Air France and one of Austrian Lufthansa subsidiary Austrian Airlines were cancelled in the absence of a green light from Russia, which refused to agree to a new air route requested by the carriers to avoid Belarusian airspace.
