Since 1972, World Environment Day has been celebrated every June 5 to raise awareness and promote a cleaner, greener and more positive future. The aviation industry is no stranger to this objective and has been strengthening its commitment to caring for the planet.
Therefore, faced with the great challenge of operating in a socially responsible manner, SKY Airlines has decided to invest in a modern fleet in order to contribute to the care of the planet. In 2020, it completed the modernization of its fleet, migrating to a more fuel-efficient and, consequently, much more eco-friendly aircraft model.
Last year, the airline became the first low cost carrier in the Americas with a fleet made up exclusively of Airbus A320neo aircraft. This model has the latest generation engines and sharklets on its wings, saving up to 15% fuel compared to previous generation models.
As a result, compared to less modern models, its aircraft reduce CO2 emissions by 30% and produce 50% less NOx. They also mitigate noise pollution by 50%.
“We know that for the industry to maintain its sustainability, companies must be increasingly responsible with the planet and the use of a modern fleet is essential for this. At SKY we will continue our commitment to maintain operations that are increasingly environmentally friendly, using the latest generation of aircraft that allow us to reduce emissions. By doing so, we will allow our passengers to get to know Peru through eco-friendly travel,” says José Raúl Vargas, SKY’s general manager in Peru.
It is worth noting that the Swiss company CH Aviation positioned the low cost airline as the airline with the most modern aircraft in the region, thus confirming its focus on sustainability and safety in air operations.
