European Union antitrust authorities have extended until Dec. 3 the deadline for a decision on the €500 million offer made by International Airlines Group, owner of British Airways and Iberia, for Air Europa.

The European Commission, which last month opened a full-scale investigation over concerns that the deal could lead to reduced competition on Spanish local and international routes, had previously set a Nov. 5 deadline, Reuters reported.
Since the start of the pandemic, the EU competition regulator has extended its deadlines in several merger cases in order to give companies more time to gather the information on customers and rivals needed to assess the deals.
IAG may have to make concessions, such as giving up certain routes, to get EU approval for the Air Europa deal.
