A passenger plane with 28 people on board crashed Tuesday in Russia’s far eastern Kamchatka peninsula, Russia’s state-run RIA Novosti news agency reported.

The aircraft, a Russian-made twin-engine Antonov An-26 turboprop, was flying from the regional capital, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, to the village of Palana in northern Kamchatka when a scheduled communication was lost and it disappeared from radar, according to emergency and transport officials.
There were 22 passengers and six crew members on board, Russia’s emergencies ministry said.

According to preliminary data, rescue teams found the wreckage of the plane and none of the passengers survived the crash, emergency services told the official RIA Novosti agency.
“Rescuers found the fragments of the plane” AN-26, Rosaviatsia said, adding that due to the geography of the site, rescue work is hampered.
