New airline Ultra Air will take off in February.

The new airline Ultra Air will start operations in Colombia in February. As confirmed by the director of Civil Aeronautics, Jair Orlando Fajardo.

Ultra Air had planned to start operations in December, however, it was delayed due to technical aspects.

“We had thought that it could start now in December, but there were some issues with some equipment but it was overcome with the help of the Aeocivil and the technical and ground personnel,” said Fajardo in an interview with Portafolio.

Viva is recognized as airline with the fourth most modern fleet in the world.

“That is why we can guarantee that, by the end of February at the latest, it will be operating”, said Jair Orlando Fajardo.

The new airline will be based at the José María Córdova international airport in Rionegro, from where it plans to operate 29 domestic routes, in the first instance, and a series of international connections that, for the time being, will not begin until the countries are more expeditious and homogeneous in terms of sanitary protocols.

In five years the company expects to incorporate at least 40 aircraft to the fleet and expects to generate approximately 36,000 direct, indirect and induced jobs in Colombia, and estimates that with its entry into the market, air fares will decrease by up to 20%.
