Airbus A220 makes a stop in Panama before going to FIDAE
The Airbus A220, the European aeronautics giant’s newest aircraft, made a stop Friday in Panama before heading to its debut at the 22nd edition of the International Air and Space Fair (FIDAE) in Santiago, Chile.
The aircraft parked in the cargo area of Tocumen International Airport, which serves the Panamanian capital and is an important regional hub, “belongs to Swiss Airlines,” Airbus president for Latin America and the Caribbean, Arturo Barreira, told EFE.

“We have asked him to show it around the region, as we are going to FIDAE, which is the most important Latin American fair,” he added.
The plane left Switzerland and made stops in Montreal (Canada), Miami (USA), Mexico and now Panama, before heading to Santiago de Chile, explained Barreira.
He added that “part of the marketing strategy is to show customers throughout the region, and FIDAE is an important event to showcase this.”
According to Airbus, the A220 is making a “South American debut” as it tours the region on a demonstration tour.

“We have not yet penetrated Latin America with this aircraft. Today we are number one in the region, as 56% of the aircraft flying are Airbus and we are incredibly successful with our other single-aisle family,” Barreira added.
The A220 is the “only aircraft” designed for the 100 to 150-seat market and includes “state-of-the-art aerodynamics, advanced materials and turbofan engines,” according to information provided by Airbus.
FIDAE, in its 2022 edition, will be held April 5-10, 2022, at Santiago’s Comodoro Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport.
