Akasa Air launch postponed to July
The launch of low-cost airline Akasa Air, promoted by billionaire Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, has been postponed to July. The postponement is because the carrier’s first Boeing 737 aircraft will arrive in June instead of May, Business Today exclusively reported.
“As we get closer to the airline’s launch date, we can confirm more accurate estimates on our timelines. We expect delivery of our first aircraft in early June, with the intention of commencing commercial operations in July 2022. Importantly, there will be no impact on subsequent aircraft induction and we remain on plan to fly 18 aircraft by the end of March 2023,” said the airline’s CEO Vinay Dube.

The airline is working closely with regulatory authorities and following all necessary processes to meet the requirements for certification, which it expects to satisfy as soon as possible, Dube added.
Last November, the airline placed an order for 72 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft worth $9 billion.
Initially, Akasa Air will focus on connecting tier II and III cities with major cities Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, among others.
