This Friday, on the occasion of International Earth Day, Iberia launched its corporate Offset Program, which will allow companies to travel more responsibly by offsetting their flight emissions through two ecosystem conservation projects, one in Guatemala and the other in Peru.
The airline thus becomes the first IAG airline to offer its corporate customers the option of offsetting their emissions.
In collaboration with CHOOOSE, a participant in IAG’s Hangar 51 program for the acceleration of start-ups, the airline will offer its corporate clients a platform that will allow them to access monthly reports with a record of the carbon footprint of their travels, and to offset that footprint by collaborating with certified projects.
→ Iberia adds two new aircraft to its fleet.
CHOOOSE will be in charge of offering projects and managing carbon offset orders, as well as executing them and issuing offset certificates. In this way, clients will only have to choose the project that best suits their company’s interests from the two currently on offer, or a mix of both: a conservation project on the coast of Guatemala (Izabal), and a community forest management project in Nii Kaniti in Peru.
Sustainability, one of the pillars of Next Chapter
This emissions offsetting program for corporate customers is part of Iberia’s strategy to advance the decarbonization of the airline industry, which the airline is developing on four pillars:
- The green transition of the airline industry, which includes all fleet renewal initiatives, more efficient operations and the use of sustainable aviation fuels, among other initiatives.
- The creation of a more sustainable travel experience for customers, through the digitalization of services, the progressive elimination of plastics on board, the development of its waste management system and carbon footprint offsetting.
- Training, awareness-raising and participation in sustainability among Iberia employees, with the aim of making them ambassadors of its strategy.
- Commitment to society, highlighting all that aviation contributes to society through connectivity, and support for R&D&I research with the Iberia Chair.
Social and environmental sustainability is also one of the pillars of Iberia’s strategic plan for the next three years – Next Chapter – which, with the commitment of its employees, will enable the airline to ensure its financial soundness, position itself as the airline of choice among travelers, strengthen its position at the Madrid hub and advance in the airline industry’s ecological transition.
