Flyadeal makes history in Saudi Arabia by operating first flight with an all-female flight crew
Saudi Arabia’s first flight with an all-female crew took off this weekend, completing a short domestic trip and passing a milestone for women’s empowerment in the country, officials said.
The flight was operated by flyadeal, the subsidiary of flag carrier Saudia.
Most of the seven crew members are from Saudi Arabia, spokesman Emad Iskandarani said.
The country’s civil aviation authority, which confirmed the announcement, has been working for years to expand women’s roles in the industry, The National reported.
Last year, figures showed that female participation in the country’s workforce rose to 33% by the end of 2020, according to data from the General Statistics Authority.

Saudi Arabia aims to generate 356 billion rials ($95 billion) of investment in its aviation sector by 2030.
Aviation Sector is working to increase connections from Saudi Arabia to 250 destinations, to reach 330 million passengers.
The country also plans to launch another airline to complement its existing domestic carriers, and to build a major international airport in Riyadh, in addition to eight other regional airports.
