Heathrow Airport reached 79% of pre-pandemic levels in May
London’s Heathrow airport announced Monday that passenger numbers in May reached 79% of pre-pandemic levels, with 5.3 million travelers.
That figure is still around a fifth below the total for that month in 2019, EFE reported.
“I am immensely proud of the way my team has worked with airlines and other partners to ensure that passengers were able to depart during the Jubilee vacations (earlier this month),” said the airfield’s CEO, John Holland-Kaye.

The executive noted that “good progress” continues to be “made” according to his plans to “ramp up capacity” at the airfield.
“We are working closely with airlines and the government to maintain a balance in supply and demand as we grow so that passengers can travel through Heathrwo this summer safely,” he said.
On the other hand, the airport felt that “recent criticism of service levels from the industry makes it clear that its proposal to increase airline fees to employ the airport until 2027 is “the right thing to do for consumers.”
The airfield’s Terminal 4, which has been closed due to the coronavirus crisis, is expected to reopen this Tuesday, ahead of the summer season, and be used by 30 airlines.
