Emirates and United Airlines will announce a codeshare agreement

Emirates and United Airlines will announce a codeshare agreement in the coming weeks, sources told Reuters.

United on Tuesday sent out an invitation to reporters to a “special event” for September 14 titled “Come Fly With Us” with Chief Executive Officer Scott Kirby and Emirates Chairman Tim Clark in Washington.

An Emirates spokesman confirmed that the airlines will make “a joint announcement” on September 14 in Washington, declining to elaborate.

After receiving government approvals, a codeshare agreement would allow customers of both airlines access to additional destinations not currently offered.

In June, American Airlines and Qatar Airways said they were expanding a strategic alliance announced in early 2020 with a new codeshare agreement to an additional 16 countries.

American said in June that the deal would establish “American as the only US airline to serve the Gulf region, connecting seamlessly through Doha with Qatar Airways.”
