Emirates has launched its plans to modernize the interior of 120 Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft, two of the largest commercial aircraft types in service today.
Representing a multi-million dollar investment to ensure Emirates customers “fly better” for years to come, this ambitious project officially kicks off in November and is fully managed by the airline’s engineering team.
→ Emirates will operate the Airbus A380 on flights to Perth and Bangalore.
The goal is to completely modernize four aircraft every month, continuously for more than 2 years. Once the 67 designated A380s are upgraded and back in service, 53 B777s will undergo the change. This will see the installation of almost 4,000 Premium Economy seats, the refurbishment of 728 First Class suites and the upgrade of more than 5,000 Business Class seats to a new style and design when the project is completed in April 2025.
Additionally, carpets, stairs and interior cabin paneling will be updated with new shades and design motifs, including the iconic ghaf trees that are native to the United Arab Emirates.
No other airline has handled a modernization of this magnitude internally. Therefore, Emirates engineering teams have been planning and testing extensively to establish and optimize processes, and to identify and address any potential issues.
As part of the programme, new purpose-built workshops will be established at Emirates Engineering to repaint aircraft and modernize cabins.
