A plane of the Portuguese airline TAP collided this Friday with a motorcycle that was crossing the runway during a landing at the airport of Conakry, capital of Guinea, which caused the death of the occupant of the vehicle.

The motorcycle tried to cross the runway at the time the TAP flight landed, the airline explained this Saturday in a statement, in which it assured that all security procedures were followed.

TAP Portugal cuts first-half losses in half.

“Even so, it was not possible to avoid the accident,” said the airline, which reported that the passengers and crew “are all fine.”

TAP, which sent its condolences to the victim’s family, is collaborating with local authorities “to clarify the circumstances” that led to the accident.

Flight TP 1492 left Lisbon at 8:14 p.m., a little over an hour behind schedule, and landed in Conakry 4 hours and 20 minutes later, EFE reported.
