The European Union ratified last November 24 the prohibition to Avior Airlines to operate within its community for considering it unsafe to travel. This restriction against the Venezuelan company has been in force since November 29, 2017.
Along with Avior Airlines, the list includes 130 other airlines, including: Iran Aseman Airlines (Iran), Iraqi Airways (Iraq), Blue Wing Airlines (Suriname), Med-View Airlines (Nigeria) and Air Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe).
→ Plus Ultra resumed flights between Tenerife and Caracas.
The 27-country bloc, however, clarified that companies on its blacklist could be allowed to exercise traffic rights as long as they use chartered aircraft with crew from a company that is not subject to a ban and the relevant safety standards are met.
Five years ago, the European authorities determined “safety deficiencies not solved” by the Venezuelan company. These irregularities were detected by the European Aviation Safety Agency during an evaluation made in order to grant an authorization to an operator outside the Schengen area.
The air safety list is one of the most effective tools to offer the highest level of safety in the European sky, assured the EU.
The European Aviation Safety Agency said it has reiterated the desirability of keeping the international aviation community informed about the technical assistance provided by the Union and member states to third countries to improve aviation safety worldwide.
The bloc decides which airlines enter or leave its blacklist together with member countries’ aviation safety authorities and under the advice of a committee of aviation experts, reported El Nacional.
