The international airport of the city of Cusco suspended indefinitely its operations in prevention of attacks by protesters calling for the resignation of Peruvian President Dina Boluarte, the government announced Thursday.

“The Ministry of Transport and Communications informed that, as a preventive measure, Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport will temporarily suspend its operations,” the institution said on the social network Twitter.

Bogota Airport was the most punctual airport in Latin America in 2022

The air terminal is guarded by police and military and is the second most used in Peru. Flights between Lima and Cusco total almost a hundred every week.

This is the second time the airport has been closed since protests broke out a little over a month ago, which so far have left at least 42 dead. In December, the air terminal was out of operation for five days, reported AFP.
