The first Airbus A340-300 of Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) equipped with Premium Economy Class took off from Zurich on Tuesday for Johannesburg, South Africa.
All four of the airline’s Airbus A340s will be equipped with the popular new class by next April. From the same date, Premium Economy Class will also be available on the Zurich-Hong Kong and Zurich-Chicago routes, in addition to Zurich-Johannesburg.

“Our new Premium Economy class has quickly established itself as a very popular way to travel. “And the very positive feedback we have received from our customers – about the increased seating comfort, improved service, greater variety and quality of meals – has only reinforced our decision to offer this premium product on more of our routes,” commented Tamur Goudarzi Pour, Chief Commercial Officer of SWISS.
The airline has already installed Premium Economy on its entire fleet of Boeing 777-300ERs, the first aircraft of which was completed at the end of February 2022.
