Volotea to offer almost 700,000 seats in Bilbao by 2023
Volotea announced this Wednesday the change of fleet at its Bilbao base with the incorporation of two 180-seat Airbus A320s (which will replace the Airbus A319s). The change of aircraft and the incorporation of a new aircraft of greater capacity will allow the company to increase its seat offer for 2023 by more than 35% compared to the previous year and thus reach almost 700,000 seats offered.
In addition, the company is launching a new route that will exclusively connect Bilbao Airport with Olbia-Costa Smeralda Airport in Sardinia (Italy). This new connection, which will offer more than 12,000 seats on nearly 70 flights, will start operating on May 27, 2023 with a frequency of two flights a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

“The fleet change and the addition of the larger Airbus A320s is a milestone for our Bilbao base and an all-time record offer for our customers. The capacity offered in 2023 will be more than double that before the pandemic, which responds to our objective of offering greater and more varied connection opportunities from the Basque Country. Likewise, with this new route to Sardinia, we remain focused on developing our strategy of offering more direct destinations to our customers,” says Gabriel Schmilovich Isgut, Volotea’s Chief Strategy Officer.
Including the new route announced today, Volotea will offer 19 routes from Bilbao, 11 international and 8 domestic (A Coruña, Alicante, Ibiza, Mallorca, Menorca, Malaga, Seville and Valencia); six connections to Italy (Cagliari, Florence, Naples, Rome, Venice and Olbia); two routes to Portugal (Faro and Porto); two itineraries to Greece (Athens and Santorini); and a flight to Morocco (Marrakech).
