A warning strike in connection with ongoing negotiations on the collective agreement for public service and aviation security workers has brought the German airports of Cologne-Bonn and Düsseldorf to a standstill on Monday.
In a statement, Cologne-Bonn Airport, the second-largest airport in the western German state of North Rhine-Westphalia in terms of passenger volume, reports that “due to the warning strikes, there will be no scheduled passenger flights today.”
It specifies that of the 136 passenger flights – 69 takeoffs and 67 landings – scheduled during the 24-hour strike 134 will not be operated.

The airlines informed their passengers in advance, so “the terminals are almost empty this morning, except for a few travelers,” says the airport, which adds that for today it expected a total of 15,000 travelers.
Meanwhile, Düsseldorf airport, the main airport in the federal state of Düsseldorf and the fourth in Germany in terms of passenger volume, informed that of the 330 flights scheduled for today, only 89 take-offs and landings will be possible.
During the weekend, 205 flights had already been cancelled, 29 had been diverted to other airports and another seven had been rescheduled for the day after the strike, called by the verdi and komba unions.
The airlines informed their passengers in advance of the cancellations, adds the statement, which points out that “the situation in the terminal is calm”.
The strike will end at 03:00 on Tuesday, but even after that there may still be occasional disruptions in air traffic, warns the airport, which recommends passengers to find out the current status of their flight, reported EFE.
