In 2022, Miami International Airport (MIA) served more than 50.6 million passengers, surpassing its record of 45.9 million set in 2019 by nearly 10% and surpassing Orlando International Airport’s 50.1 million travelers by half a million, making it the busiest airport in Florida.
The airport reported that it moved 29.3 million domestic travelers last year compared to 23.5 million in 2019, and served 21.3 million international passengers in 2022, which was one million fewer than in 2019, but 8.3 million more than in 2021.

American Airlines and its Envoy subsidiary contributed to MIA’s post-pandemic recovery and served 31.8 million passengers in 2022, representing 63% of the airport’s total and an increase of one million passengers over 2019 for the airline.
In 2022, MIA also matched its record of 2.7 million tons of cargo set in 2021 by handling 2.2 million tons of international cargo and 500,000 tons of domestic shipments.
“In addition to leading our community’s successful post-pandemic economic recovery, MIA is once again leading the way for the state of Florida as well. Congratulations to the airport team and its partners for surpassing 50 million passengers for the first time in its history,” said Daniella Levine Cava, Miami-Dade County Mayor.
