Volotea presented this Wednesday, together with Ivan Grande, Director of Bilbao-Aena Airport, a historic offer of seats from Bilbao airport.

The company will offer 700,000 seats this 2023, 147% more compared to 2019, the pre-pandemic year and 41% more than 2022. This increase in capacity is due, in part, to the change of fleet, moving from Airbus A319 to Airbus A320 since April. With this model, Volotea will offer 15% more seats per flight, making Bilbao the airline’s first Spanish base by volume of seats offered.

In addition, with the incorporation of this new aircraft, the airline expects to generate 45 new jobs, in addition to the 114 people it already employs directly and the more than 230 people it employs indirectly.

Volotea and Eurowings sign strategic agreement

Continuing with the strategy of connection between medium and small cities, as well as connectivity with the islands and the recovery of international routes, Volotea presents three new destinations from Bilbao Airport. In addition to the routes already announced for 2023 to Florence and Rome, which will start operating from April, and to Marrakech, Faro, Santorini and Olbia, from May, the airline will also connect this airport with Tenerife South and Gran Canaria from October. In September, it will also operate a new route between Bilbao and Lyon. For winter, the company is also studying the possibility of connecting the base with a new international market, yet to be determined.

“We are very proud to be able to provide more travel alternatives to our customers in Biscay. Our historical offer of 700,000 seats and 22 routes during this year 2023 is a reflection of the great demand for connectivity between medium-sized cities and the firm commitment to Bilbao,” said Gabriel Schmilovich Isgut, Volotea’s Chief Strategy Officer.

In 2023, Volotea will operate more than 4,000 flights connecting Bilbao’s airport with 22 destinations in six countries: Spain (A Coruña, Alicante, Gran Canaria, Ibiza, Mallorca, Menorca, Malaga, Seville, Tenerife South and Valencia); France (Lyon); Greece (Athens and Santorini); Morocco (Marrakech); Italy (Cagliari, Florence, Naples, Olbia, Rome and Venice) and Portugal (Faro and Porto).
