Spirit Airlines unveils its first Airbus A321neo
Spirit Airlines unveiled its first Airbus A321neo aircraft Monday at a ceremony held at the airline’s maintenance hangar in Detroit.
The aircraft, registration N702NK, will make its first commercial flight on June 7. The airline plans to take delivery of seven more new A321neo aircraft in 2023, with 24 more scheduled for delivery in 2024, in addition to other A320 Family aircraft deliveries.
The A321 is the largest member of the Airbus A320 Family, and Spirit currently operates 30 A321neo aircraft in its fleet of nearly 200 aircraft.

“Adding this new A320 Family variant to our fleet is a feat that has been years in the making. I am grateful to all of our team members who have made it possible for us to increase our capabilities and open the door to new horizons for Spirit,” said Ted Christie, President and CEO of Spirit Airlines.
Spirit is currently undergoing a fleet renewal process as it retires its A319ceo aircraft while adding larger, more modern aircraft to increase capacity and fuel efficiency.
The airline recently closed a deal to sell 29 of its A319ceo aircraft, which are the oldest in its fleet. Spirit plans to retire all of its A319ceo aircraft by the end of 2025.
