More than 9 million passengers have used Terminal 2 of Tocumen International Airport (Panama) in its first year of operations, which has had a positive impact on job creation, increased connectivity opportunities and regional competitiveness.
As part of the celebration of the first year of operation of Terminal 2, the general manager of Tocumen International Airport, Raffoul Arab, made an operational and technical balance, highlighting the strength and will of a great team that showed dedication, sacrifice and professionalism, overcoming multiple challenges and obstacles since 2013 to see the large and modern airport facility operational, active, dynamic and productive.
“Since the opening of T2, we have responded to the needs of our passengers and airlines, consolidating an operational balance between Terminals 1 and 2, facilitating expeditious, safe, efficient and comfortable processes for departing and arriving users, as well as for travelers in transit,” said Arab.

The Terminal currently concentrates 48% of the airport’s total operations, through Copa Airlines, Air France and KLM, in addition to other airlines that perform partial boarding and disembarkation operations and the domestic terminal facilities with direct flights to the city of David, province of Chiriqui.
As for the commercial activity that contributes to the airport’s financial sustainability, 38 duty-free stores have been activated at Terminal 2, in addition to a wide range of services that have generated more than 1,600 new direct jobs in the private sector, said Arab.
On the other hand, Arab announced that in the coming weeks and months the hospitality services offered will be expanded with spaces for relaxation, a new executive lounge, bookstores, pharmacies, new stores, a multi-religious prayer room and a children’s playground.
Terminal 2, which required an investment of $917 million, has spacious and modern facilities, 20 boarding bridges, comfortable immigration and customs areas, baggage scanners, a baggage handling system with the capacity to handle up to 12,000 bags per hour, electrical backup systems, fuel storage and dispatch, more than 1,000 parking spaces and a Metro station, among other passenger facilities.
