India’s antitrust agency has approved the merger of Tata SIA Airlines, which owns Vistara, with Air India, while allowing Singapore Airlines to also acquire shares in the newly formed entity, the regulator said Friday in a post on social media platform X.

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) had been examining the deal, announced in November 2022, and had raised concerns about the possibility of the merged entity having a monopoly in the domestic market.

Air India’s merger with Vistara, a joint venture of Tata and Singapore Airlines, will challenge local rival and market leader IndiGo.
