Virgin Atlantic announced Friday that it will suspend the route connecting London-Heathrow with Austin (Texas) next January 7, 2024, following a “persistent weakening of corporate demand”.
The airline said it will contact affected customers who must fly after this date to offer them options, including a full refund.

“We have loved flying our customers to Austin and experiencing this wonderful city of music and culture, but demand in the technology sector is not going to improve anytime soon, with corporate demand at 70% of 2019 levels. We have therefore regrettably made the tough decision to withdraw services,” commented Juha Jarvinen, Virgin Atlantic’s chief commercial officer.
The airline launched nonstop flights between London and Austin in May 2022, and has since competed directly with British Airways.
In August, Virgin Atlantic carried about 4,800 passengers to and from Austin, compared with more than 16,000 for British Airways.
