Copa Airlines held 28th edition of the “Unforgettable Trip”
Copa Airlines held the 28th edition of the “Viaje Inolvidable” (Unforgettable Trip). This year, the initiative recognized and celebrated the talent of 130 children from multi-grade schools in Colón, Capira, Alajuela, Chilibre and La Cabima, who won the “Creative Ideas” writing contest organized by the Panama Canal Authority’s “Guardians of the Watershed” program.
During this unique trip, participants had the opportunity to fly over the Panama Canal watershed, allowing them to observe from above what they had learned in this educational program. The main objective of this program is to raise awareness of the importance of water conservation and to understand the cycle of this valuable resource, which begins in the air.

This experience, more than just a simple plane ride, symbolizes the materialization of dreams for these young people and hopefully an inspiration to know that with education and effort, anything is possible,” said Pedro Heilbron, CEO of Copa Airlines.

The selection of the 130 children who participated in this experience was carried out in recognition of their outstanding work in the ‘Guardians of the Watershed’ program carried out by the Panama Canal Authority. These children, between the ages of 6 and 15, faced a variety of challenges according to their grade levels, ranging from the description of ‘Who is a Watershed Guardian’ to the creation of environmental missions and projects related to water preservation.
The flight was operated by the airline’s Boeing 737-800. During the experience, the participating children were also accompanied by Fanlyc’s goddaughter from Copa Airlines and Tocumen, S.A., a child from Make a Wish and the Teleton 2023 symbol girl.
During the 29 years of Copa Airlines’ “Viaje Inolvidable,” the airline has fulfilled the dream of flying for more than 3,600 children in Panama, belonging to schools and institutions that specialize in caring for children who are socially and economically vulnerable.
The Viaje Inolvidable activity began at the Copa Airlines offices, where the children and their teachers shared breakfast. Afterwards, they went to Tocumen International Airport where they received their boarding pass, were given a backpack with school supplies and boarded the plane that took them to see Panama from the skies. After disembarking, they enjoyed a Christmas party with surprises and gifts.
The “Copa Airlines Viaje Inolvidable 2023” experience is possible thanks to the commitment and work of an Organizing Committee made up of volunteers and airline collaborators with the support of a group of special donors and sponsors that year after year contribute to this activity: Petróleos Delta, Madison, GALA(Galindo, Arias & Lopez), LSG Sky Chefs, BUSMEN, T-shirts Interamericana, SEMM, Festieventos, Kenneth Cole, La Italiana, Aqua Viva, Proclean, Asados Gaby Dana, COCA COLA and Del Monte.
