Spain’s Iberia inaugurated direct flights between Madrid and Doha, Qatar on Monday, marking the start of its joining the world’s largest joint venture with Qatar Airways and British Airways.

Through Madrid, London and Doha, the three strategic partners offer unrivaled connectivity between Spain and more than 200 destinations in Asia, Australasia, the Middle East and Africa, with the most efficient connections.

This new route was also created with the aim of positioning the Spanish capital as a hub connecting with the countries of the Asian continent. This operation is part of the promotional activities promoted by Madrid Turismo by IFEMA Madrid, promoted by the Community of Madrid, Madrid City Council and IFEMA MADRID, with the collaboration of the companies and associations that make up the Madrid Tourism Board of Experts, including Iberia.

The new route provides 49 new connections in Asia, 17 in Africa, 18 in the Middle East and 6 in Oceania, with a stopover in Doha.

“This is not only the premiere of a new route, something that always fills us with enthusiasm, but we are opening the door to and from Asia, a very large continent, which will mean a wide range of options to increase and diversify connectivity and, with it, tourism and business,” said Fernando Candela, Iberia’s president.

The combined schedule offers travelers morning, afternoon and evening departures between the two capitals and hundreds of connections from each hub. Whether traveling from Madrid to Bali, Sydney to Ibiza, Lisbon to Maputo or Doha to Malaga, the combined networks offer fast and convenient itineraries for all passengers.

The partnership also offers members of the airlines’ loyalty programs the benefit of a common currency: Avios. Iberia Plus, Qatar Airways Privilege Club and British Airways Executive Club members will be able to earn and spend Avios on flights with all three airlines.
