JetSMART successfully completed phase three of the five stages established by the RAC to obtain the certification that accredits it as an airline operator in the country.
In accordance with Colombian Aeronautical Regulations, RAC JetSMART Airlines Colombia submitted the required documentation to demonstrate its technical and operational suitability to provide its services at the airports of Bogotá, Barranquilla, Bucaramanga, Cali, Cartagena, Medellín, Cúcuta, Montería, Pereira, Pasto, San Andrés and Santa Marta.
Following the schedule established with the Aeronautical Authority, the airline is preparing to comply with stage four of the certification process, which includes test flights to be carried out on aircraft used to cover routes within the country.
For this stage, JetSMART will use the Airbus A320neo with registration number AWZ, known by the company as the Scarlet Macaw, received last August, which is the first aircraft of this type manufactured by Airbus in the state of Alabama (United States) delivered to a South American company.

With this new aircraft, equipped with technology that enhances operational performance, JetSMART is preparing to mark a milestone in the start of its subsidiary’s operations in Colombia, with which it hopes to return to the path of democratization of air transportation services in the country through effective service at very low prices.
In parallel to this certification process, JetSMART has been working with Aerocivil to obtain the slots (flight departure and landing schedules) necessary to operate at Bogota’s El Dorado Airport, highlighting the importance for the project and for the airline industry in Colombia of having the necessary infrastructure for the entry of new operators.
Upon completing phase three of the certification process as an airline operator in Colombia, JetSMART’s CEO and President, Estuardo Ortiz, said: “This December 2023 we will be reaching the milestone of carrying more than 25 million passengers in our operations in the region and completing the largest ULCC airline fleet in South America with 32 state-of-the-art aircraft. We are now in the final stretch to complete all regulatory requirements and be able to offer domestic flights, with new aircraft, at ultra-low fares throughout the country. JetSMART is the best low cost airline in South America, according to travelers surveyed by the Skytrax World Airline Awards”.
“The ‘low-cost’ model returns to Colombia and with it the previous low fares. We hope that all Colombians will be able to fly ‘Smart’. Soon we will be 100% Colombian and we will link them with all of South America,” added Ortiz.
