Icelandair and SMBC have signed a long-term lease agreement for a new Airbus A321LR, scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2026. This aircraft will join the four A321LRs announced in an earlier agreement between the two companies.
Recall that in July 2023, the airline signed a contract with Airbus for up to 25 A321XLR aircraft.
Both models will be the future replacements for Icelandair’s Boeing 757 fleet.

Deliveries of the A321LRs will begin in 2024 and the A321XLRs are scheduled for delivery in 2029.
“We are pleased to announce the lease of one more aircraft to our partner SMBC Aviation Limited. These aircraft will provide exciting opportunities and possibilities to explore new destinations, as well as further support our sustainability efforts,” commented Bogi Nils Bogason, President and CEO of Icelandair.
