In a joint effort to promote sustainable practices in the corporate travel industry, Siemens and LATAM Airlines Group announced the offset of 4,296 tons of CO2, which is equivalent to more than 64,000 urban trees absorbing carbon for 10 years.

Siemens South America decided to offset all the CO2 generated on its corporate flights for one year, corresponding to 12,000 flights originating in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, through the LATAM group’s 1+1 Compensate to Conserve program.

In this way, Siemens offset a total of 2,148 tons of CO2 in the region, an amount that rose to 4,296 tons with the contribution of the LATAM group which, as part of its sustainability program, maintains its commitment to double the contribution made to generate a greater impact.

“The magnitude of the climate change issue requires the effort of all of us. That is why we greatly appreciate Siemens’ commitment, which allows us to promote more sustainable practices in the corporate travel industry in South America. We hope that this will inspire other organizations to take concrete steps to promote the conservation of our region’s ecosystems and to continue creating partnerships that will allow us to have an even greater impact in the future,” said Andreas Schek, Vice President of Sales and Branding at LATAM Airlines Group.

“At Siemens, we believe that true innovation happens when we combine technology and sustainability. That’s why we talk about Technology with Purpose. Every action counts, and by taking responsibility for the emissions we generate, we lead the way to a more sustainable and climate-resilient future. That is Siemens’ commitment to the generations to come and to the preservation of our only home: planet earth.” Eduardo Gorchs, CEO Siemens South America.

The contribution made by both companies will benefit projects of high environmental and social value that seek the conservation of strategic ecosystems in South America. The projects correspond to: “CO2Bio” in Colombia, “Cururos Wind Farm” in Chile, and “Nii Kaniti Community Forest Management” in Ucayali, Peru.

1+1 Compensate to Conserve Program

The partnership with Siemens is part of LATAM Airlines Group’s “1+1 Compensate to Conserve” program, which gives its corporate clients the opportunity to choose from a portfolio of projects of high environmental value to offset the emissions generated by their air travel.

An invitation to support the protection of the environment and ecosystems in a collaborative way, since for every ton that the customer decides to offset, LATAM group will offset one more, thus doubling the positive impact on South American ecosystems.
