Singapore Airlines (SIA), in line with its ongoing commitment to ensure the holistic well-being of its customers, offers exclusive services and programs that promote the physical and mental wellness of passengers on board its longest flights.
Aware of the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, the airline works with strategic partners, leaders in the field of health and wellness such as Golden Door and Como Shambhala, who have developed innovative in-flight dining concepts and services to offer nutritious food options, as well as exercise programs designed to relieve stress and improve passengers’ overall well-being.
Rest and wellness to match the flight
Although long-haul flights are not always synonymous with wellness, Singapore Airlines together with its partners Como Shambhala and Golden Door have designed programs to make their longest routes more comforting. Passengers can enjoy these benefits on the world’s longest flights between Singapore and the United States, for example, where aircraft have only two cabins, Business Class and Premium Economy.
This travel experience, which aims to enhance nutrition, improve sleep quality, and raise travelers’ energy levels, is made possible by the implementation of revolutionary measures that include, on the one hand, customized menus prepared by renowned chefs that fuse nutrition and gastronomy and, on the other hand, exercise programs and stretching routines that have been designed by personal trainers specifically for SIA customers.
As a result of this program, customers can enjoy, when traveling on one of these flights, a menu of healthy and tasty dishes carefully tailored to nourish the body and relieve travel-induced stress, such as fatigue. Ingredients rich in antioxidants and micronutrients such as kiwi, yogurt, beets and strawberries come together in dishes that boost the immune system and help customers feel refreshed after the flight.
Similarly, in order to promote passenger relaxation, the program also includes articles and videos with meditation exercises, breathing techniques and body exercises suitable for periods of prolonged inactivity and that help passengers mitigate fatigue and soften the effects of jet lag.
Healthy and sustainable gastronomy on board
Sustainability is at the core of the company which, under the “Farm to Plane” motto, collaborates with the industry’s leading local producers guaranteeing fresh and carefully selected food, enabling chefs to design and deliver some of the best in-flight cuisine in the world.
As part of this initiative, SIA has signed agreements with several producers wherever it operates, such as Hudson Valley Fisheries, which supplies the company with sustainably sourced trout on flights from New York, or the agreement with AeroFarms, a leading indoor vertical farming company, which allows Singapore Airlines to serve the freshest vegetables in the world on board its flights from Newark to Singapore.
In this particular case and thanks to the technology used by AeroFarms, plants grow from seed to mature product in a few days, using 95% less water and a fraction of the fertilizers used in conventional agriculture. In addition, all AeroFarms products are grown without pesticides, herbicides and fungicides.
The Farm to Plane initiative is part of SIA’s efforts to source ingredients closer to its catering centers, thus reducing transportation time and being more environmentally friendly as a result.
Wellness on the ground and air
In June 2022, Singapore Airlines opened its newly renovated SilverKris and KrisFlyer Gold lounges at Changi Airport Terminal 3, designed by renowned hospitality firm Hirsch Bedner Associates, offering passengers the utmost in comfort and luxury before boarding. Featuring SIA’s iconic batik motif, these lounges have dining areas, work areas, toilets and showers, and enhance the traveler’s experience by providing new spaces with more privacy and designed for better relaxation.
The Private Lounge is the most exclusive space on the SilverKris and is reserved for passengers traveling in Singapore Airlines Suites and First Class. All rooms have adjustable lighting and are equipped with Poltrona Frau recliners. Two of the day rooms have Tempur Zero G single beds with Supreme Firm mattresses, which feature a unique zero-gravity system that allows the body to relax in total weightlessness.
