Avianca was officially recognized as the “World’s Most Punctual Global Airline in 2023” by Cirium, a firm specializing in aviation industry analysis.

Jeremy Bowen, CEO of Cirium, presented this distinction to the Avianca team at an event held this Thursday at the Simón Bolívar hangar in Bogotá, during which an aircraft with a livery commemorating this recognition was unveiled.

“It takes a lot of effort and teamwork to conduct air operations on time taking into account all external factors: weather, staff shortages, mechanical problems, among others. And especially in 2023 when demand increased. In addition, the positions at the top of the ranking are often only separated by fractions of a percent. Avianca won the overall category with an OTP of 85.73%, 0.2% higher than the second-place airline. But the change in Avianca’s performance from before the pandemic to how it is performing now is what they should be most proud of. The 2023 OTP figure is more than 10% higher than in 2019 and 2% higher than in 2022. The change in trend is truly remarkable!” noted Bowen.

Avianca reactivates flights between Lima and San Salvador

“Behind this achievement is the commitment of more than 14,000 people from the Avianca team who, in coordination with authorities and partners, work to ensure that our customers reach their destinations safely, on time and with their bags. And of course, we thank the more than 32 million passengers who trusted us to fly during 2023. We are proud of this recognition that puts us on a par with world-class airlines and Colombia as an international benchmark in the aviation sector,” said Frederico Pedreira, CEO of Avianca.

During 2023, the airline achieved an On-Time Performance (OTP) index of 85.73%, after ranking first in the global ranking (for airlines operating in at least three regions) in May, June, August and September, and remaining in the top five consistently between February and October.

Avianca currently has a network of more than 140 routes connecting 75 destinations in 25 countries in the Americas and Europe.
