At 04:03 this Monday, a plane of the Swiss airline Edelweiss Air made an emergency landing at the Ernesto Cortissoz airport in Barranquilla, according to Colombia’s Civil Aeronautics.

The aircraft, an Airbus A340-300 registered HB-JMD, had taken off from Cartagena International Airport at 03:43, with 13 crew members and 314 passengers, and was bound for Zurich, Switzerland. It had previously flown between the cities of Bogota and Cartagena.

According to preliminary information, shortly after takeoff, it presented an overtemperature condition in one of the engines and in the aircraft cabin. For this reason, the crew decided to land at Ernesto Cortissoz airport, which was on its route, Aerocivil said in a statement.

The aircraft landed without further incident and taxied under its own power to the landing dock. No injuries were reported.

Aerocivil’s Technical Directorate for Accident Investigation, with the participation of the Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board (STSB), initiated the investigation of the incident.

The affected passengers were placed on flights of Avianca and LATAM airlines to return to Bogota in order to try to transfer them to their destination on flights of the same airline or others, via other points in Europe. Some were temporarily accommodated in hotels in Barranquilla while awaiting their transfer.
