JetSMART begins domestic operations in Colombia

On Thursday morning, JetSMART began its domestic operations in Colombia with an inaugural flight between Bogota and Medellin, and an additional flight from Medellin to Cartagena.

The company will operate in its first stage a total of 8 direct routes from Bogotá to Medellín, Cartagena, Pereira and Santa Marta; also, from Medellín to Santa Marta and Cartagena and from Cartagena to Pereira and Cali.

This milestone marks the beginning of a new era in air connectivity in Colombia.

“Today we are a Colombian airline and that fills us with pride. As of today, Colombians now fly SMART, in the newest fleet in all of South America. We have brought the ultra low cost model to the country. At JetSMART we focus on bringing air travel at low prices to all Colombians, with a safe, reliable and on-time service. Operating from T2, the former Puente Aereo in Bogota, will allow us to offer a friendly and simple experience to travelers,” said Estuardo Ortiz, CEO and president of JetSMART.

“We believe, trust and invest in Colombia, to contribute to the tourism, development and connectivity of all communities, as we have already done with the 25 million people who have flown with us throughout South America. Our new operation in Colombia is an important step in our vision of 100 million passengers and 100 aircraft by 2028,” added Ortiz.

The decision to launch operations in Colombia stems from a deep understanding of the needs of travelers in the region. JetSMART, which began international operations to Colombia with routes from Bogotá, Cali and Medellín to Santiago, and from Medellín, Cúcuta and Cartagena to Lima in addition to the Cali, Antofagasta route, recognized the importance of offering accessible and convenient options for travel in and out of the country.

The low-cost airline officially launched operations from Bogota’s iconic Puente Aereo, Terminal 2. This event marks a turning point in the country’s aviation landscape and underscores JetSMART’s commitment to providing convenient travel options for all of its passengers.

Base of operations in Medellín

After intense negotiations with various airports in the country, JetSMART announced that they have closed an agreement with the capital of Antioquia – Medellin – to establish it as a new operational base. This agreement will allow three aircraft to operate in the city of eternal spring, thanks to the support of the Governor’s Office, the Mayor’s Office of Medellín and Airplan.

JetSMART’s commitment to Colombia is part of the development of an ambitious expansion and growth plan in South America, where the country occupies an important place in the potential development of the Colombian market.
