LATAM Airlines began offering Wi-Fi on flights within Chile and some routes from the country to other South American destinations. The enabling already covers 30% of the airline’s Narrow Body fleet in Chile. The new service is part of the company’s ongoing investments to improve the travel experience on short and medium-haul routes.

LATAM is the first airline in Chile to introduce wifi internet with 9 Airbus A320 aircraft equipped with the system flying within the country and by the end of 2024, it is expected that close to 90% of the Chilean subsidiary’s aircraft will already have this equipment.

“With the launch of this new service, we seek to enhance our passengers’ experience and transform travel into a connected space. At LATAM, we constantly strive to offer better and better trips, and this system seeks to ensure that every trip with us is an unforgettable experience,” said Paulo Miranda, vice president of Customers at LATAM Airlines Group.

LATAM eliminates 96% of single-use plastics in its operations

Connectivity will be achieved through Ku-band satellite technology provided by Intelsat. This technology will allow our passengers to enjoy messaging services, web browsing and even movie streaming, all on board our aircraft.

The LATAM group had already announced this service in two of the markets where it has domestic operations. LATAM Brazil already has 100% of its NB fleet with wifi access and LATAM Colombia currently has 60% of its NB fleet with this equipment.

How to access wifi?

LATAM’s internet service offers different connectivity packages. To access the free service, where passengers can send and receive messages via Whatsapp, Viber, iMessage and Facebook Messenger, passengers must follow the steps below:

  1. Activate airplane mode.
  2. Connect to the “LATAM Play” network.
  3. Scan the QR code located in front of the seat or enter “play.latam.com”.
  4. Select “Free Messaging”.
  5. You are already connected to free messaging

For passengers, this alternative represents an important solution because it allows them to maintain connectivity while flying. For travelers who wish to have greater connectivity, different data plans are available. Prices start at US$5 per hour. Each plan offers everything from e-mail access to the use of in-flight streaming services.

LATAM Play

The wifi service is part of LATAM Play. The platform is the mechanism for bringing together in a single channel all in-flight connectivity and entertainment systems through play.latam.com. In narrow-body aircraft (A320 family) all access to content is through personal electronic devices (PEDs).

In total, the LATAM group makes available to its customers more than 170 movies, more than 550 episodes of series, 1,000 songs and children’s and reading content for them to enjoy during their travels. And for this year, the LATAM group aims to grow its content offering by 50%, consolidating its position as a leader in the region with world-class content, including content from three in-flight streaming platforms: Disney+, HBO Max and Paramount+.
